With a mission to provide a way for low and moderate-income families to own a home, Brother Mike Wilmot, S.J. started a two-man, non-profit housing corporation to build affordable concrete homes in North Omaha. Brother Wilmot and Hunter Jones, a carpenter and Milwaukee native, broke ground for the first two concrete houses in August 2002. Each year since, the number of homes grew, supported by private financing, philanthropic grants and funding from the City of Omaha. Eighty three houses later, Gesu Housing continues to provide quality, energy and maintenance efficient affordable housing in the Clifton Hill/Girls Inc neighborhood of North Omaha.
